Leeds's status as the country's triathlon capital is confirmed today with the announcement that the prestigious World Series event will return to the city next year.

Confirmation of the decision comes two weeks after some 80,000 people lined the streets of the city to watch the world’s best athletes swim at Roundhay Park before cycling and running in the city centre.

Olympic gold medal winner Alistair Brownlee, from Bramhope, hailed the decision as “fantastic news”.
