Leeds United: Steve Evans confirmed as Uwe Rosler’s replacement

Rosler 12-game reign at Elland Road ended in the wake of Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Brighton, United’s third successive loss and a result which dropped the club to 18th in the Championship. The 46-year-old, who took charge as head coach in May, will be replaced by Evans less than a month after Evans left his previous job as manager of Rotherham United. Evans was taking training at Thorp Arch this morning and club owner Massimo Cellino has confirmed to the Daily Mirror that the Scot is to be named as Rosler’s replacement. Rosler’s departure takes to five the number of head coaches dismissed by Cellino since he bought Leeds in April 2014. His assistant Rob Kelly and first-team coach Julian Darby are also understood to have left the club. The former Wigan Athletic and Brentford manager arrived at Leeds shortly after the end of last season, signing a two-year contract and overseeing substantial investment in the club’s first-team squad. United, however, took 11 points from their first 11 league games and suffered a sustained loss of form last month after starting the season with a six-match unbeaten run. Cellino had given Rosler strong backing recently, saying: “This coach is the best person for me and for the team. “He’s the coach I was looking for when 20, 30 people asked me to give them the job in May. I chose him and if you gave me the choice I would choose him again. “If someone gave me the chance to change, I would take this coach and these players because we have something good here. “This guy (Rosler), he is professional. I like him more than any coach I had here before.” Rosler confirmed to the YEP that he had left the club and said the parting of ways was “definitely not mutual”. Evans, meanwhile, has been out of work for a matter of weeks since parting company with Rotherham on September 28. The 52-year-old guided the Millers to promotion from League One in 2014 but left his job with the club in the Championship’s relegation zone. He has previously managed Crawley Town and Boston United.
