Leeds United vs Southampton: Daniel Farke discusses promotion chances amid new injury update
and live on Freeview channel 276
This afternoon’s pre-match presser is unlikely to be the last of its kind this season with Leeds most probably having to participate in the Championship play-offs later this month.
Farke chose not to discuss the probability of that particular scenario following his side’s 4-0 defeat by Queens Park Rangers last Friday but after Ipswich Town’s victory against Coventry City earlier this week, the automatic promotion picture is an especially stark one from a Leeds perspective.

Hide AdUnited must beat Southampton on Saturday afternoon and hope a Huddersfield Town side, practically already relegated to League One, can pick up three points against Kieran McKenna’s Premier League hopefuls at Portman Road.
It’s a tall order but not impossible, therefore it will be intriguing to see the sort of line Farke takes in his press conference today.
The boss will be joining us in the Thorp Arch media suite from 1:30pm. Stay tuned.

Farke on final day
You have to earn your spot in the starting lineup in the training week. Without team training it’s not possible to be in the squad. We’re not thinking about what happens after the last game of the regular season. We know it’s a small chance but as long as there’s a chance we go for it. We want to be there with the best possible performance and result, to finish in the best way.
Farke on injuries
We have our long-term injuries, Dallas, Struijk out for the season. Dan James will miss the game, no chance. Big question mark behind Connor Roberts. Involved in parts of team training, not ready for 90 minutes. Late decision with him. Big question mark behind Patrick Bamford, no full team training, just individual work so far.
Injury latest
Pascal Struijk still out through injury, but an update on Connor Roberts is expected.
Patrick Bamford’s bruised knee will have been assessed further after missing QPR last weekend. We await Farke’s verdict on that one.
On the agenda
Here’s what we’re anticipating Daniel Farke to speak about this afternoon:
- Ipswich’s win at Coventry
- The promotion picture
- Leeds’ task vs Southampton
- How the squad has responded since QPR
- Whether he has accepted the likelihood of play-offs
- Injury update
- Status of Patrick Bamford’s knee bruise
Winning is the name of the game
Stranger things have happened in football, but Leeds know at a bare minimum they must beat Southampton this weekend if they’re to be promoted automatically - as unlikely as that now appears to be.
Welcome to Thorp Arch
Good afternoon, we’re up at the training ground for Daniel Farke’s pre-match presser.
Stay tuned for updates from 1:30pm.
