It was Marcelo Bielsa's game in hand on the top two - Norwich City and Sheffield United - but it was a night that would end in tears with the Argentine left on his haunches in West London post-match.

Luke Freeman bagged a winner with a close range strike as United failed to make their domination pay with Patrick Bamford and Stuart Dallas both missing big chances late on.

The Rs halted a run of seven straight league defeats with victory in the capital and Leeds remained in third place behind the Blades on goal difference in the promotion race.

"We didn't take advantage of the first half. In that first half we dominated the game," Bielsa said post-match.

"They had a good five minutes at the start of the second half. From that moment the game changed.

"They could then counter-attack and create danger and for us it took a while to build back into the game and create chances."

Leeds went on to win their next three games - which included a 4-0 hammering of promotion rivals West Brom at Elland Road - but the campaign ultimately ended in disappointment with defeat to Derby County in the play-offs.
