United are approaching Saturday's Championship hosting of Reading with a three-point cushion in the division's automatic promotion spots with third-placed Fulham away at Derby County tonight.

Leeds, though, have their automatic promotion destiny in their own hands with 13 games remaining and Sky Sports presenter Prutton believes another 31 points or ten wins and a draw would probably send the Whites up in the top two.

United - who are currently on 59 points - spent the majority of last season in the top two only to fall away in the final month and finish third with 83 points.

A season-ending defeat in the play-offs semi-final to Derby followed as champions Norwich City and runners-up Sheffield United were promoted automatically.

The Canaries finished on 94 points with the Blades on 89.

One year on, Prutton sees 90 points as the magic marker needed to be achieved by Leeds.

"We all know what happened last season with regards to how many points Leeds got - 83," Prutton told the YEP.

"But if you get up towards 90 points then you have got a pretty decent chance of finishing in the top two.

"There seems to be a renewed confidence in Leeds’ promotion charge after last weekend’s 1-0 win at home to Bristol City and Fulham’s 3-0 defeat at home to Barnsley.

"But Leeds fans will not be getting carried away with themselves and it is going to be nerve-shreddingly tense between now and the end of the season.

"It’s horrible but it’s 13 lots of nail-biting 90 minutes and Leeds have just got to make sure that by hook or by crook, they get the job done."
