Leeds United's on-loan pair Joe Rodon and Connor Roberts have withdrawn from the Wales squad for the country's friendly fixtures with Gibraltar and Slovakia later this week.

The Leeds loanees have informed Wales boss Rob Page that they are no longer available for selection when the nation takes on UEFA minnows Gibraltar and Slovakia on June 6 and June 9, respectively.

Rodon and Roberts were both selected in the squad that will travel to the Algarve before jetting off to face Slovakia in Trnava three days later, but have since withdrawn. It is not known whether the players have chosen to prioritise rest and recuperation following a gruelling campaign with the Whites which ended in play-off final defeat at Wembley Stadium, or if they have picked up injuries in the lead up to Wales' upcoming fixtures.

Leeds teammate Glen Kamara, meanwhile, has pulled out of Finland's international fixtures this month with a leg injury.

Between them, Roberts and Rodon have amassed 99 caps for Wales but will not add to their respective 55 and 44-cap hauls this month. United colleagues Ethan Ampadu, Dan James and youngster Charlie Crew remain involved with the Welsh group for the two friendly fixtures scheduled this week.

James sustained a large cut to his forehead during Leeds' play-off final defeat against Southampton but is believed to be in satisfactory condition to feature for Wales, while Crew has been named in the senior squad for the first time at the age of just 17.

While the aforementioned trio are all contracted at Elland Road, Rodon and Roberts' futures remain up in the air following the end to the 2023/24 season. Both players are expected to return to their parent clubs over the summer with Roberts not anticipated to sign permanently with Leeds having only featured sporadically during his six-month loan spell. Burnley are also unlikely to sanction an outgoing loan move to a divisional rival following their relegation from the Premier League.

Rodon, on the other hand, established himself as a fan favourite during his time in West Yorkshire, is expected to leave Tottenham Hotspur again for the 2024/25 campaign and could be the subject of a renewed loan bid from the Whites. Leeds' failure to secure promotion back to the top flight complicates any attempt to sign the 26-year-old centre-back on a permanent basis due to the necessary finances involved in such a deal.
