Shipley College – helping new healthcare professionals and supporting the West Yorkshire Apprenticeship Awards

Shipley College is extremely proud to sponsor the Health & Public Service Apprentice of the Year category at the West Yorkshire Apprenticeship Awards, as it helps nurture the next generation of healthcare professionals in our region.

Shipley College provides high quality education and training to school leavers, adults and employers, offering full-time courses, T Levels, apprenticeships and part-time qualifications. The College works with professional organisations and local employers to develop inspirational education and training that best serves Shipley, Bradford and our wider region - including for over 30 years delivering high quality apprenticeships.

They have recently been named as a leader in digital innovation for healthcare, following a successful bid collaborating with other West Yorkshire colleges, for Local Skills Improvement Funding (LSIF) as part of the Local Skills Improvement Plan (LSIP) for West and North Yorkshire.

This is a fantastic opportunity for the College, meaning that the current and future Health students will be trained in AI and robotics which will ultimately help reduce pressure on the frontline NHS, whilst delivering the healthcare workforce of the future.

The College understands the importance of training local students to become future-ready clinical and health care specialists. Health and Social Care is a key sector that requires employers and individuals to be able to access the technical skills they need.

Thanks to this funding the College will be the lead in developing curriculum to meet digitalisation in the Health sector - meaning it will soon be able to offer access to such groundbreaking resources as mixed reality (MR) robotic simulators, anatomage tables and an immersive environment!

One of the things the College is most proud of is their commitment to getting students work ready. Throughout the year students go out on work placements with local employers so they can gain an insight into the working world and help prepare them for their futures. The employers the College works with not only provide an invaluable experience for students but they also benefit from having students on placement.

The College are really excited about their ongoing collaboration with Bradford Royal Infirmary and their cadets being on placement at the hospital. They are all gaining such valuable experience and having a great time putting the skills they have learnt in their course into practice on the wards.
