A young drug dealer tried to ram into police cars that had been chasing him through Leeds in a last ditch attempt at escape.

Luke Dickinson was spotted driving a Ford Mondeo with false licence plates earlier this year – and officers quickly began pursuing him.

They were eventually forced to deploy a stinger in Pudsey, before boxing him in near a residential street, but the 24-year-old still tried to ram his way out.

Dickinson admitted a charge of driving a motor vehicle dangerously and a charge of criminal damage. He was sentenced at Leeds Crown Court yesterday (June 17).

The court heard that he came to the attention of police on February 28, but sped away when he saw their blue lights on Tong Road.

Turning up Roker Lane, the officers deployed a stinger but Dickinson continued to overtake traffic on a blind bend. He was driving at around 50mph in a 30mph zone.

Later, Dickinson mounted the pavement to overtake two more cars before trying to turn onto Littlemoor Road. It was there that officers shunted his car, pinning him against street furniture.

He tried to ram the vehicles by driving forward and reversing, but he was trapped. There were two other people in the car.

Officers found 14 small packages of heroin and 23 packages of cocaine inside the driver’s door.

As well as the other charges, Dickinson was found guilty of possession with intent to supply crack cocaine and heroin after a trial.

Defending, Marte Alnaes said that Dickinson had a “difficult start to life” and that a psychiatric report showed he suffered from anxiety.

She added: “It’s obvious that he sees the world a little differently from the rest of us. He has gone throughout his life feeling different from those around him.”

Addressing the defendant, Recorder Andrew Dallas said: “You were clearly intending to continue street dealing on that occasion.”

Dickinson, of Sunbridge Road, Bradford, was jailed for four years and five months. He was also banned from driving for five years and two months.
