Leeds United fans are known for their passionate support and will appreciate the scenes in Germany.

It’s been almost one month since Leeds United were last in action and after a much-needed break from football, supporters have been tuning in to the European Championships in Germany.

Last month’s Championship play-off final defeat against Southampton at Wembley was heart-breaking for Leeds fans and the 46-game regular season was gruelling. But with little direct interest apart from watching England, supporters can enjoy a more light-hearted approach to Euro 2024 and actually enjoy watching football again.

There has only been four days of action so far but already plenty of drama, with the tournament favourites all looking sharp and goals flying in. But as well as action on the pitch, Leeds fans will enjoy the atmosphere in and around the grounds and travelling supporters from the Netherlands were in great spirits over the weekend.

Ronald Koeman’s side kicked off their Euro 2024 campaign against Poland in Hamburg on Sunday, with the city turning into a sea of orange in the hours before the game. Videos emerged on social media of thousands of supporters all chanting and moving in unison, creating an amazing moment that has been appreciated by viewers across the globe.

Those fans then flocked into the Volksparkstadion to watch the Netherlands win their opening game against Poland 2-1. The Oranje went behind inside 16 minutes but goals either side of half-time from Cody Gakpo and Wout Weghorst gave supporters plenty more to shout about.

And supporters from across the continent have been playing their part during the early days of the tournament, with Germany’s vast stadiums and weaving streets covered in colour and noise. A group of Danish supporters travelled through Germany in their famous ‘Rooligan’ bus, a nod to their anti-hooligan, light-hearted outlook on football which won hearts during the 1992 European Championships.

Albania were virtually able to turn Borussia Dortmund’s Westfalenstadion into their home ground for Saturday’s 2-1 defeat against current holders Italy, filling the ground and turning it into a red sea of noise.

Fans of opposing teams have also shared plenty of food-related banter, often poking fun at each other’s national cuisine. During Switzerland’s convincing 3-1 win over Hungary, a fan of the latter was spotted holding a sign that read ‘fondue is better than goulash’, while Albanian supporters were seen snapping pieces of spaghetti in front of their Italian counterparts.

On Monday, Romania enjoyed their best ever European Championship win after putting three past Ukraine without reply. And after full-time at the Allianz Arena in Munich, players gathered in front of their main group of fans with a megaphone before leading the post-match celebrations.

And even rival fans from England and Scotland were able to share a joke, with a small group of the Tartan Army filmed sheepishly walking through a group of England fans to the tune of ‘Scotland get battered, everywhere they go’, following Friday’s 5-1 thumping at the hands of hosts Germany.
