Leeds United news live: James Trafford and Dominic Calvert-Lewin England reaction; Nico Elvedi feat
Leeds United news throughout the day.
The first international games in the extended international break have now been played - Leeds United having two stars in action for England against Spain on Saturday night.
The club’s record signing and new no 1 James Trafford was handed a start in Saturday evening’s Nations League clash at home to world champions Spain which got off to a horrible beginning as a mistake from Marc Guehi let in Lamine Yamal to fire the visitors ahead inside the second minute.
England recovered to lead 2-1 at the interval thanks to goals from Anthony Gordon and Harry Kane but Kane then crashed a penalty against the crossbar as he looked to put the Three Lions 3-1 up after the break.
The miss proved costly, Alex Baena drawing Spain level on the hour mark and Mikel Oyarzabal firing home the winner 16 minutes from time, Trafford beaten by three clinical finishes for all three goals.
Whites no 9 Dominic Calvert-Lewin was brought on to replace Kane for the final seven minutes but struggled to get involved.
Leeds defender Nico Elvedi was also in Nations League action on Saturday evening for Switzerland, helping his side keep a clean sheet in a 3-0 win at North Macedonia in which he played the full match.
Earlier, Ilia Gruev made a full return from injury to play 90 minutes for Bulgaria who suffered a 2-1 defeat at home to Luxembourg, also in the Nations League.
More Leeds players are set for action on Sunday with Ethan Ampadu, Dan James and Jayden Lienou part of the Wales camp who visit Denmark in a Nations League clash in a 5pm kick-off.
Anton Stach then looks set for more minutes with Germany who host Greece in a Nations League clash in a 7.45pm start.
Here, we will bring you all of the Whites news throughout the day.
