Leeds United ambition clear as £40m James Trafford deal ranks among most expensive ever goalkeeper transfers

Leeds United are on the verge of breaking their own transfer record.

Leeds United are expected to break multiple transfer records if their pursuit of Manchester City goalkeeper James Trafford gets over the line. The YEP understands a deal worth £40million plus add-ons is close to being completed with player terms all but agreed and final touches left to be sorted.

Should the deal go through, as is looking increasingly likely, Trafford will become Leeds’ record transfer, eclipsing the £35.5m spent on Georginio Rutter in January 2023. He will also strengthen his own status as England’s most expensive goalkeeper, a status he already has following his £31m move to City a year ago.

And Leeds’ ambition in pursuing this deal is even more clear when comparing Trafford’s imminent £40m move to that of the world’s most expensive ever goalkeepers. Take a look below to see where the Elland Road target will rank, should the deal go through.
